Art has become a comfort zone for me. Over the years, I’ve learned the basics through a few general classes but consider myself an amateur artist still learning through trial and error. Many things in art can be adjusted and that sense of control has made it a safe space for me in a way that lets my creativity flow while allowing me to feel secure in an, at times, uncontrollable world. The lure of art not only lies in the vibrancy for me but, the pride in knowing that an intense focus can lead you to such a detailed result is stunning.
The colors shown in my art have been used in an emotional way to highlight the positive correlations I have personally to the subject at hand. The contrast in my use of black is there to enhance the color and give my paintings a soft edge to them. Every time I create I love adding my own twist to techniques, concepts, and portraits of living people. Knowing that there will always be something to learn or experiment with is where my endless appreciation for art lies. The unique pieces that come from working with different mediums or doing commissions for customers while molding it into my style will always excite me.
I named my social media @byxpeople for that reason although my art is signed by my name, Marlen Sosa-Rosa, my art is a culmination of techniques of trial and error that I piece together and details that surround societies. The colors of different cultures, the detail in clothing, the references of peoples’ body language are all an inspiration to me. The pieces I make are for people and ultimately by “x” amount of people that, physically, inspire the piece. I would love to do more pieces on a set of vastly different people in the world to show how they can be similarly portrayed in life, through my vibrant or positive style, despite physical differences because appearance does not ultimately define you. Between that project and silly little sketches to get creativity sparking that is where my focus on art will continue and then grow from.
