One of the things I love about traveling within Latin America is that I feel part of their community. Most people in these countries are very welcoming to any culture, but when they know you are also of Latin heritage, they are even more friendly than usual.
Latin America has so many amazing places rich in culture and splendid views of lakes, mountains, and landscapes. Trying their food is one of my favorite experiences when I travel. Interacting with their locals is too.
I remember when I went to Brazil, I don’t speak Portuguese, but I can understand a lot because of the similarities to the Spanish language. However, the locals didn’t mind at all; they received me with open arms. The same goes for the Caribbean, islanders may not all speak Spanish, but they love tourists regardless of their nationality. I guess that’s why many people go back each year to some of the same spots, if they treat you well, you feel welcome and you kind of know you will have a good time there.
I love to visit the Dominican Republic; besides their pristine beaches, good vibe, and excellent weather, their customer service is outstanding.
Even when I go to Spain, not a Latin country, where we speak the same language, I feel great interacting with the locals and learning their culture, and when I leave, I want to go back.
You don’t have to be Latin to enjoy these countries fully, but it’s a perk to be one.
