Have you ever wondered what would have happened if one of the people in your family line such as your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. would have made a different decision? If, so we would not be telling our story today and that is the importance of our ancestors and their culture to us. They are part of our story and because of their decisions we owe our lives to them.
That is the message that we have to bring to our children so that this story is not lost. We must talk to the family and rescue it. Knowing where we come from helps us better define ourselves as people. It helps us develop the pride and respect for the contribution and culture that those ancestors left us. It’s an interesting project to have your DNA tested to get a clearer idea of how far that line extends. I had it done and the results surprised me and I was even able to solve the mystery of my father’s last name. Do not allow family members to pass on without asking questions about our history.
Reconstructing the experiences of our ancestors is an enriching experience. When we know who we are and we are proud of our lineage and we are able to navigate in any culture with fewer difficulties. Many people live without knowing their history. The best legacy for our children is to pass on the pride of being part of a family with a unique story worthy of continuing to be told.
