Hello, my name is Nikki Aquino. I grew up in Berks County but I come from a Puerto Rican and Dominican origin. School has always been my thing. It comes naturally to me, I can credit this to my love of each subject and the fact that one can never “stop learning.”
The world is constantly changing around us, constantly throwing new obstacles, ideas and perspectives on our way (that is, all of 2020). From my point of view, the basis of progress in any aspect of life is the will to apply what you know about the past and build on it. My greatest example would be one of my greatest accomplishments: an internship at Reading Hospital (there were only four places available). This was my first experience in a highly competitive process, as I had to undergo a trial, multiple rounds of interviews, and the whole thing happened almost a year before the show started. At this point, I had dozens of AP courses and honors under my belt, I needed a new environment where I wasn’t the smartest person in the room.
I think one should feel comfortable being uncomfortable because comfort is stability and stability remains stagnant. I will attend La Salle University in the fall, where I will major in Biochemistry in the medical field. Here, I plan to run into numerous walls and be academically challenged like never before; But as I said, I am ready to feel uncomfortable and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. I really plan to reap the rewards for all my hard work when I finish school (about 30 years old).
