I am writing this on the eve of June 4th. Tomorrow we go from ‘red’ to ‘yellow.’ There is still a fair amount of uncertainty about what that will mean for our daily lives, and we have no idea how long we might linger there before going green. Protests, prayer vigils and town halls demand our attention and join us together in a collective cry for justice that is centuries overdue.
The world on the outside for all of us right now is much like the world on the inside for many during adolescents. Change is happening rapidly at the same time it is not happening rapidly enough. So much of everything that once seemed stable, now feels very uncertain and chaotic. The developmental changes that humans go through during adolescence are equally dramatic. That’s one reason access to trusted adults (family and community) are so important for teens.
Johnathan Rodriguez-Baez, Health Educator, is one trusted adult our community’s teens can turn to. Youth age 13-19 can schedule a time to meet with him at the Health Resource Center (429 Walnut St., Reading), or meet with him in our virtual HRC. Johnathan also teams up with Health Educator, Charlotte Brewer for a weekly Instagram Live conversation. Johnathan also coordinates our Youth Ambassador program for youth who are looking for a way to be more involved. You can reach Johnathan directly at: 610-375-6523, ext. 108 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Things can change quickly these days so stay connected with us on social media (Berks Teens Matter) or visit our website: www.berksteensmatter.org for updates on other opportunities to connect with Johnathan this summer.
