As a mother, I have always wondered if the Internet is safe for my children, and the truth is that it can be if there is constant monitoring on my part. There are many predators out there waiting for defenseless people especially kids.
It’s easy to come across online predators, or mean-spirited people looking to make a profit of their own not caring that they are causing a lot of harm to someone who doesn’t know how to take care of themselves or doesn’t know the difference when they are being scammed. Predators easily find vulnerable people because they know where to find their victims and the Internet is an easy place.
How to make sure that the internet is safe?
- We must not forget that we live in a world dominated by social networks where not everything you see is a reality.
- A stranger can cause lots of damage on the Internet, as it can be very easy to create relationships, but you should not trust everything that is said or even believe in the images that you see as in some cases it’s a false reality.
- Do not share personal information (email, full name, home, work, or school address) this is something that I constantly mention to my children as well.
- Investigate, investigate, and investigate again. Also, watch for any behavioral changes paying attention to what your children are doing or saying when they are using the Internet.
The list could go on, but it doesn’t hurt to always monitor communications and to talk to them about the dangers online or even offline.
Until next time…
