How Exercises Strengthen The Immune System
During these difficult times caused by the COVID19 pandemic, everyone is trying to strengthen their immune system. Besides supplementing with antioxidants, zinc, and Vitamin C, did you know that exercising regularly can boost your immune system?
Exercise has a very important effect in raising our immune system and making it work more effectively. Exercise helps release bacteria out of the lungs and airways. This reduces the risk of contracting influenza or other cardio-respiratory diseases. It causes a change in antibodies and white cells (WBC) making them circulate faster; these are the first line of defense to fight diseases. When we exercise, our body temperature increases during and after. This prevents bacteria from growing and developing. This rise in temperature and the release of sweat helps the body fight infections more effectively (similar to the fever process).
It also helps us to release stress which is extremely important since stress increases the risk of getting sick. Exercising also helps us clear our mind; therefore we reduce the probability of making worse certain conditions. Studies have shown that people who lead a moderately healthy lifestyle – following an exercise program as well as a good balanced diet increase their chances of having a stronger immune system.
There are many exercise programs that you can do from the comfort of your home, especially during this quarantine. You can also go cycling, daily walking, aerobics, or Pilates. The important thing is to increase your heart rate and sweat. In conclusion, exercising will make you healthier and more energetic. Do not put off until tomorrow what you can start today. “An ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure”
