Just two years ago when I bought my house I noticed the gentlemen who sold the house to me who was 84 years old bent down so fast to grab something that was falling on the floor. I myself in my 40’s was so embarrassed that he could move faster than me. I asked him, what is your secret? He replied “I never stop moving and I still do thirty minutes of exercise every day.”
I loved that he told me this as lots of older people such as my mom feel they are too old to do exercise however if they only knew that the mere fact of staying active could possibly give them extra time on this earth. I’m not a doctor so I can’t advise that but I almost swear by it, just consult with your physician first.
That is why I decided to dedicate this issue to the seniors that are choosing to stay active. I truly believe that staying active is vital to healthy aging. This month we cover different topics that affect seniors such as aging gracefully, vaccines for seniors, the secret to living is giving and most importantly we featured a great human being in this community, Dave Kline and he tells us his story of how the thought of not having adventures scares him. He is motivated by fear. Dave is what I call a modern senior, he gives back to the community, he travels, loves biking, skiing, fishing, gardening and so on. I believe that the list of things he won’t do is easier to mention as it is way shorter. When I met Dave for the photo session I was surprised to see him pull up in a bright blue Rubicon Jeep. The Cadillac grandfathers and grandmothers are disappearing and I freaking love it! Let’s use this Palo edition to motive other seniors to get off the couch and get active to possibly enjoy a longer healthier life.
