Every year I love dedicating several issues to health awareness. This month we chose to focus on several issues such as Cancer, and Diabetes. We also featured an article with great resources for women with Breast Cancer.
I myself had a scare in July, I wasn’t feeling too well and I chalked it off to not eating right and not sleeping enough hours. However, I started feeling specific pains in my stomach. I decided not to wait until it was an emergency and made an appointment with my doctor. I literally heard the word Cancer twice in less than 30 days. That was enough to make me realize that sometimes we don’t practice what we preach.
I first booked a much-needed vacation but realized that I truly didn’t relax because I was worried about having to come back to take some additional tests to determine if I had cancer. As at the time I was too swollen and was on medication and was told I needed to wait 30 days before any further examinations could be done.
From July to September I had a CT scan, an MRI, liver testing, blood test, a Colonoscopy, and an Endoscopy and I was finally told last month in mid-September that I was cleared and didn’t have either Colon cancer or cancer in my Kidney. However, I was told that I must start living a healthier lifestyle.
If I could advise you I would say, be preventive and visit a doctor annually. Also any time you feel any sign or feel discomfort make sure to make an appointment immediately, always drink lots of clear fluids and try to eat a healthy balanced diet and understand that it’s ok to have a cheat day every now and then. I wish you all good health because we all know that being healthy is the new being wealthy.
