Traveling is Healthy for the Mind, Body, and Soul
Living a hectic life is as common to Latino families as it is for any top executive. Hardworking Latinos having two jobs is more the norm than the exception. We want to provide for our families with the dignity of earnings from hard work, dedication, and commitment. However, many times we forget to take care of the most important person: ourselves. I am guilty, too.
To have a healthy mind, body, and soul, we must take care of ourselves. Walking, running, outdoor activities or the gym, they all help in creating some balance. A balanced life is a life well-lived. I would also suggest traveling. Traveling soothes your inner spirit – whether it is for the excitement of visiting a new place or the fear for the unknown.
Most recently, Adriana and I embarked on what we called our “Verano 19 World Tour.” We visited Paris, France; Rome, Italy; The Vatican; Athens, Greece; Mykonos Island; Tinos Island; Santorini Island; Madrid, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; and, the African city of Casablanca in Morocco. The salad of languages could be overwhelming to some. We rediscovered the undeniable fact that being bilingual is a blessing. The stimulus for the brain to understand linguistic and cultural expressions was as healthy to the mind as it was for the body walking the hills of beautiful Santorini.
Traveling is a time for reflection. It is time for you to meet yourself again. To let go any negative thoughts and to refuel positive forces to encounter life’s distractions with faith and optimism. It is important to go away, disconnect, reflect and enjoy the food, the music or something as simple as the breeze of the ocean. Remember that you are worthy – and to help others, you must have a healthy mind, body, and soul. You must take care of YOU.
