Some people think that makeup is used to cover up imperfections or to decorate one’s skin. Some think that it’s a thing of vanity and that those who love wearing it should love their natural beauty.
While I agree to an extent, I don’t think those ways of thinking are completely accurate. More times than none, clients have told me makeup makes them feel better about themselves. Empowered is many times the description I hear most. Most women that come to me appear confident but are interested in looking more beautiful for a day, event, or celebration. In my opinion, walking around glammed up takes courage since many will turn to stare at you. When you feel beautiful whether made up or not there’s a sense of feeling like you can conquer the world….and that’s a great feeling! I love wearing makeup on occasion and when I do, I transform physically and mentally; I feel on top of the world.
Imagine fighting cancer and being stripped of many things that make women feel feminine such as hair, normal skin, beautiful nails, and many times normal to high self-esteem among other things. Isn’t beauty what women are characterized by? Many things change and get out of control during those hard times. Makeup can play an important role in increasing self-esteem and making women, especially cancer patients and/or survivors, feel empowered and beautifully feminine.
Let’s embrace all forms of beauty and not criticize others for wanting to feel better.
