Teens sometimes are guilty of not taking care of their skin. For many, it’s an embarrassing situation. Bacteria gets clogged into the pores and as a result, pustules form. It’s important to start a skin regimen around puberty. This is a time of raging hormones which in turn manifest on the skin. When I speak to teenagers about their skin I reiterate the importance of starting a skin regimen early. If a habit is created early, the likelihood of it becoming a normal part of their daily routine is big.
It is important that teenagers cleanse their skin twice a day. In the morning and before bed. If they are suffering from acne then a salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or both should be part of their regimen. Salicylic acid removes dead skin cells that are clogging pores and benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria. Since they both do something different, many times it’s a good idea to alternate them both using one or the other every other night especially if the acne is bad. A daily routine should consist of a professional cleanser with acne treatment included, toner, and moisturizer twice a day. It’s also not a bad idea to see a skin specialist monthly for their deep cleaning treatments. Getting into a habit of this will keep their skin healthy and youthful-looking for a long time.
