In the past few weeks, I’ve had God’s blessing to fulfill one of my dreams which was to go with my husband to Venice as a celebration of our wedding anniversary # 25! A dream trip that was one day only a plan but today I can say was literally a dream come true. One of my passions is to travel; to learn about other cultures, people around the world, create memories with my husband and daughters that they can treasure when we are no longer in this physical world.
Many times I will hear people say: traveling is for millionaires, I am afraid or anxious to be away from home, I do not have time to travel, I would like to go on a trip but my financial situation prevents me from doing so, therefore I will only dream that one day I will do it.., always having an excuse.
I will tell you that travel is truly within everyone’s reach as long as you have a good plan. On this particular trip, I wanted to make the most of every opportunity, visiting as many places in the shortest possible time and spending the minimum amount of money. I tell you that in 12 days I visited: Spain, France, Italy, Montenegro, Croatia, and Greece. How did I get to visit so many places in such a short time and without spending a million? I did it by taking a cruise that sailed the Mediterranean Sea and the Adriatic Sea! I did, however, book it 14 months in advance with only $1.00 down and I paid for it little by little. To make sure we saved money on this trip every morning before each port I made sure to have breakfast and in the evenings I returned to the cruise ship where I dined until I was satisfied.
The places that left me wanting to return were Barcelona, Tarragona, Salou, Spain, an adventure, Santorini, Greece, a truly magical and beautiful place with its blue beaches and beautiful architecture. Sorrento, Florence, Italy are beautiful with delicious cuisine. Dubrovnik, Croatia has a lovely view and history. Not to mention Venice, a romantic, beautiful and captivating city! Every dollar every Euro invested was well compensated with the best memories for me and my family, we really remained with a desire to see more, therefore, we are already planning our next adventure.
I learned that it is more economical to make excursions with local taxi drivers who are responsible and offer their services making sure to return in time for the cruise and that in a short time you can enjoy the best scenery, the best meals, and purchases of gifts and souvenirs. I verified that it is a myth that utilizing local taxi drivers is not safe. The way I verified it is because I booked several trips with large companies and they were expensive and disappointing. They offered a lot and in reality, you had less to see and do. I will personally continue using local taxi drivers and I already have contacts established for the next trip.
To summarize how to prepare for a trip: You must have very good planning, budgeting and be daring. Nothing is difficult or impossible. Many times we spend more in our daily lives and waste money on unnecessary things.
My beliefs: To create and invest in memories for my daughters because someday they will leave home, and maybe someday I will not have the health to travel so… why wait? Not everything in life is work. We have to learn not to live to work but rather work to live!
