Summer continues to be an important time to take care of your skin because the sun rays can do major damage if you don’t take proper care of it. SPF should be a very important part of your everyday skin care routine but in the summer it’s even more important. If you don’t wear enough protection your skin can wrinkle, burn, stain, decrease elasticity over time, and ultimately age prematurely due to too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays and SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays. None will protect you 100% and 30 to 50 only protect 1% more. The trick is to apply it multiple times a day instead of only once. If in and out water, then apply when exiting each time.
It is important that we are also careful about allowing improperly trained individuals to do procedures on our face and body. Every person who practices in a salon or spa in PA MUST be licensed before they can touch anyone’s skin. A certification only becomes valid for use once the person is licensed. A licensed esthetician, who is not medically licensed or receiving direct orders from a doctor, cannot lance the skin or perform any advanced esthetic procedures in the state of PA. It is unsafe practice, but we still see this happening all the time.
Many go under the hand of improperly trained people who suggest procedures that are unsafe or inappropriate during hot or cold temperatures. Please be careful.
Be safe, stay hydrated, and remember…you get what you pay for.
