A few months ago, my husband and I decided that our health needed attention. We realized that we were so caught up growing our business that we neglected our physical and mental selves. We also realized that we were not enjoying the fruits of our labor because we were overweight and tired.
We started a so-called diet so many times in the last several years. I feel we failed because we just viewed it as a diet instead of a lifestyle change. When you view sacrifice as being confined or restricted versus a way to freedom then you will not be successful. When you are on a diet you think of all the foods that you can’t eat instead of all the great options that you do have, and that this new lifestyle will add many years to your life. Once you realize this is a lifestyle change you will never be on a diet again. With only just a few months of starting our lifestyle change, today our life is very different. We now crave exercise, we work out 4 to 5 days a week and on the two days that we don’t work out miss it.
As far as food goes we think it’s a bit more challenging because eating habits stem from childhood. Besides food is something that we humans have to think about several times a day. We started by cutting down our carbohydrates, that was key for us as we were consuming too many. We cleaned our cupboards and fridge that was so refreshing. We got rid of white pasta, bread, cereals, and all sweets. We replaced with whole grains, whole wheat pasta and lots of fresh veggies. My favorite beverage was soda and I have not had soda in 6 months. The weight just started to fall off and in all the right places.
I’m writing about this because I know lots of readers and social media followers are looking to start a change and just need a push and I hope my story will inspire them to gain some type of control on whatever goal they are looking to achieve.
