Start your holiday traditions without alcohol. In the past, you may have depended on alcohol to enjoy yourself around the holidays. Consider making new traditions with your family and friends. Find non-alcoholic drinks that get you into the spirit. Have fun by playing board games or cards.
- Make mouthwatering and satisfying drinks without the alcohol. Consider hot apple cider, hot chocolate, a nada-daiquiri, specialty coffee drinks or try a sparkling punch with sherbet etc…
- Do activities with friends that don’t focus on alcohol. Get outdoors for hiking and skiing. Walk along trails with holiday lights. Take a train ride or go to the movies and have a nice dinner.
When going to a party, keep a NON-ALCOHOLIC beverage in your hand. Friends or strangers may offer you a drink. While they may think that they’re being helpful, it can possibly lead to temptation. Feel free to tell your friends that you’re staying sober when you’re at their party.
- Keep your glass full and in arms reach. When you see alcoholic drinks being passed around you’ll have your own beverage to keep in your hand.
- Offer to bring a non-alcoholic drink to share with others. For example a “Virgin Hurricanes”. See recipe by Taste of Home below:
