Have you heard? Things are looking up in Berks County and Reading is rising!
The signs are everywhere you look if you are looking with open eyes.
Every weekend there are more fun things to do than anyone can possibly do. Our unemployment rate is 3.7 percent. The “Downtown Revitalization Public-Private Partnership” has a vision that will benefit the whole community. RACC continues to grow education and workforce development opportunities from ESL to technology training and dual enrollment at four-year colleges. The Berks County Latino Chamber boasts more than 75 members. I could go on, but I hope you get the idea: If you reside in Greater Reading, now is the time to make your dreams come true. The community is ready to support you.
What does all of this have to do with Berks Teens Matter’s goal of reducing teen pregnancy by 40 percent by 2022? Everything. A community committed to creating an environment where families can and do thrive is a community where young people can truly imagine all they are capable of becoming. It is a culture where youth are mentored in building skills and relationships for success. It is a place where postponing pregnancy is one part of their plan for their future.
