When I found out I was expecting my first child, my entire life changed. I began to see the world through different lenses. I’m sure all mommies know exactly what I mean. Emi was born with so much hair; it was jet black and straight. At around five months old, most of Emi’s hair fell out. Luckily, it started to grow back quickly. But her hair was no longer straight and smooth, it was curly and thick and I had no idea what to do with it.
I used to wear my hair straight at the time; I never really learned how to take care of my curls. But I wanted Emi to love hers. Together we started our curly hair journey. I researched all things curly; products, tools, techniques, etc. We bonded through the process, I looked forward to wash day and cherished that time together.
My daughter is now 3 years old and has the most gorgeous curly hair. It fills my heart with joy to know that she loves her natural hair and that she feels beautiful wearing her curls. My daughter Emi inspired me to embrace my curls and to embrace motherhood in such a beautiful way. Our hair is a product of inspiration, patience, and love. My daughter helped me free my fro!
