The vision of my program G.E.M. is to help inspire girls/women. We focus on everything from health, education, and self-love. G.E.M. was started in 2012 after being in the community and seeing lack of programs for young women. After growing up in a community where I didn’t have many role models that look like me I know it was time to make a change. After speaking to several women in the community and getting feedback on needs from young women G.E.M. was born. Presently the program has helped dozens. We help them with resume writing to providing help with business attire and even helping young women go to prom.
This brings me to our Fairy Godmother Project in which each year we reach out several high schools in the area and offer the help of our fairy Godmother project. We offer young women help if there’s a hardship to be able to attend prom with everything from dress, hair, and makeup. And we don’t stop there we provide long-term support for the young women. Such as mentoring and just building a relationship with them. Last year we dressed 11 young women throughout Berks County. This year we plan on helping 2 times of what we did last year.
My goal for this program is to grown not only in Berks County but in the State of Pennsylvania and eventually in the world. The youth is our future and what better what to help them then to have a mentor. I am extremely blessed and proud to have so much support such as Susan from Frock on Penn Avenue, Patricia Wright, Caridad Cosenza, Tina Boyd, DoubleTree and Theresa Violette just to name a few.
I am always looking for more mentors and sponsors to help with projects. If you are interested contact me at alneasajordan@gmail.com.
