Accountability to Health Corner
Monthly health tips from two people who learned the skills to become accountable for their own health
On the outside, my life appeared perfect. I had a great career, a beautiful family, and all the trimmings. But inside I was miserable, perpetually exhausted and burnt out! How could this happen to someone who was successful, smart, an athlete most of her life and appeared to be happy and healthy? It is very simple, life just got in the way. We are all human. It’s true you see the glory but don’t know the story.
Nearly three years ago, I was introduced to Nutritional Cleansing, and my life changed. I jumped all in because I was sick and tired of being sick and tired and desperately needed a change. My initial goal was to lose a few pounds, which I quickly accomplished, but started to realize this was about so much more than the scale. My chronic headaches and joint aches were gone. My energy was up, and stress was down. I was leaner and stronger than ever. I simply felt human again.
A key part of both mine and Josh’s journeys were not just transforming our bodies but transforming our minds. We didn’t only clean out the junk in our cabinets but also our minds and environments. Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about what you put in your mouth but who you surround yourself with and what you put in your head, like positive or negative self-talk. We have both made a choice to change the dialogue with ourselves, surround ourselves with like-minded people, and embrace and love who we are.
Josh and I are committed to working on both our physical and mental health. We are continuously part of a 16-week body challenge that holds us accountable to our physical goals. We nurture our minds with books, meditation, or listening to podcasts while we work out of someone who inspires us. The one simple thing you can do right now is write down a positive affirmation to yourself on a sticky note (i.e. I am good enough), as well as leaving them for others that need a little support and encouragement. Put this somewhere you will see it every day.
It’s never too late to make a choice and declare you are worthy. I did, and as a result, I now fuel my body with good nutrition, and I am committed to my fitness not because I hate my body but because I love it. Our goal is to inspire others to love themselves unconditionally, to feel their very best and live an abundant, healthy life they love.
