I have been talking with and listening to a lot of parents in our community over the last year. Without exception, every parent has told me that they want their children to be happy and successful in life. Without exception, every parent has told me that they want their children to have what they need to achieve their goals.
Setting goals is a great way to move forward in life and the start of a new year provides the perfect opportunity to start (or revisit) goal setting conversations with your children. Talk together about hopes and dreams for their future, and share ideas about how you each define “success.”
Once their goals are set the work of putting a strategy in place, accessing the tools necessary for achievement, and seeking out supportive mentors to help guideus along the way begins. Sometimes the process can seem overwhelming, and staying the course can prove challenging.
That’s when it is important to remember that “success” is rarely, if ever, accomplished alone. We all need caring individuals and communities in our lives – people who can loan us a little bit of their strength, experience, wisdom and hope when the going gets tough. Berks Teens Matter wants you to know that we are here to be part of your caring community. We have resources you can use to help making talking with your teens a little bit easier.
For starters, go to the “Teen” tab at www.berksteensmatter.org and click on “Plan Your Future,” then download the Game Plan.
