In my case, it is an honor to speak to you about my Boricua culture. A culture deployed throughout the length and breadth of this state. There are only 8 million Boricuas in a world of 7.5 billion people. Moreover, there are more Boricuas outside of the island of which many were not born in Puerto Rico but through this unique Hispanic, Taino, African, American culture Puerto Rico born in them. There is no superior culture. There are individual cultures. The Boricua culture is endowed with a powerful individuality, especially in our food. And that’s where I want to get – since there is no more important driver for better human relations than food.Did you know that mofongo is purely Puerto Rican? It is made of dozens different ways – fried meat, chicken, shrimp, octopus and more. My favorite is a coastal mofongo accompanied by the best local seafood. Mofongo is a cultural expression that encompasses our roots from the western area of ??Africa mixed with Taino and Spanish influences. Mofongo is not only made of plantains, but also cassava and breadfruit, strengthening our indigenous history. There is also the delicious trifongo – cassava, ripe bananas and green bananas.Food is a fundamental part of people’s identity and their history. From Colon’s arrival to the island in 1492 and American troops in 1898, our culture has been influenced by historical events that have changed the course of history and strengthened our identity.
